Win your very own Sirka Counter!

** The winner of the drawing is lucky number 6: Kathy! I will be in touch! **

This is a review of the Sirka counter. Let me start by saying the Sirka is a beautiful piece to have in your possession. It has great colors, and just feels nice in your hand.
But of course, it's not just a pretty face. It lets you keep track of stitch patterns, repeats, decreases and increases, stripes, and anything else you would like to count while you're knitting. It’s nicer than the little counters that sit right on your needle (how do you use them on circular needles, anyway?)

I also like this better than relying on apps on my phone, because frankly it can drain the battery, and sometimes you want to use your phone for other things!
I won't try to explain everything about how the counter works – it’s on the website – but I will say that lets you keep track of several different things at a time such as decreasing for the neck, while at the same time, shaping the arm holes, and at the same time remembering to cable every 8 rows. You get the idea!
You advance the little hands every time you do the thing that you need to repeat and you keep doing it until you reach the end – which is marked by one of the colored hands on the face of the counter. That's not a very good explanation, but it does give you an idea that it is easy to use, and it is also fun to use.
I really enjoy using my counter! And I'm so grateful for GrellowandGray for sending me this one for me to try out.
Do you want to win your very own Sirka? Just enter a comment on this blog saying why you want to own your own counter. You must include your email or Rav id or Instagram handle so I can tell you if you've won!
I’ll draw a winner in one week, on March 14.
Good luck!

  4. I'm so interested in the Sirka counter. Your description did help me to understand it better than I had before. Just finished a project with 7 sections, many repeats. My little notebook is a flurry of check marks Thanks for the opportunity!

  5. I am currently working on a top down sweater that would put a Sirka counter to good use. I have increases for the shoulders, the neck, and a cable chart to juggle. Sirka to the rescue?

  19. I just finished a project for which I had to write out extended row repeats in two sections, which made me deeply resentful -- isn't that the job of the pattern writer? Using this tool would smooth my ruffled feathers and return serenity to my knitting world! I'm on Ravelry as RedwoodCoast

  21. Since I am a knitting teacher this would be a great thing to introduce to my students. I am always looking for items to increase their knitting skills. It also might help me finish a project I have been working on for a couple of years not because I cannot memorize the pattern.

  24. The Sirka Counter sounds amazing. It would really help keeping track of the different row counts for the project that have more than one that you have to keep track of. I got a project now that would be wonderful for.

  27. Would love to win this! I have seen them at Stitches Midwest and never pulled the trigger to buy one; I'm not sure why because I'm a huge sweater knitter and think I would use it all the time. Thanks for this opportunity but also for your review. Cori E Rav - irocknits

  33. I'd love to try this tool, I have a phone app that has similar functions but as we all know, electronics have their drawbacks (occasionally ups the count when I haven't touched it). It looks somewhat like a fancy timepiece, very intriguing.

The name is interesting too and very unusual. Apparently sirka is a condiment (vinegar) used in Indian cooking. Not sure how that relates to a knitting tool -:)

  51. At the moment I'm knitting a throw. I'm using my phone to keep track of rows, but each row has a set number of stitches and a decrease in the middle... so I'm constantly looking at a bit of paper to recall which row corresponds with the number of stitches. The Sirka Counter would be a tremendous help.
    My Ravelry ID is Coltsaga.

The project bags look adorable, but I have so many now (with various PhDs - Projects half Done) I'm running out of room for stash!
